DALLAS: Director of US based South Asia Democracy Watch and Kashmiri leader Raja Muzaffar has expressed deep concerns on sentencing of life imprisonment for long detained political prisoners.

He said that these measures will discourage the peaceful struggle for Kashmiri people and will embolden violence in the region.

Three convicted men are activists from Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front which is a large political party and committed to peaceful struggle under the leadership of Yasin Malik.

JKLF and Yasin Malik are committed to a peaceful solution of Kashmir issue through negotiations and had meetings with Manmohan Singh and Yousuf Raza Gilani in this regard.

Sheikh Nazir Ahmad along with Shaukat Ahmad and Abdul Rahman who had been behind bars for last 51 years are finally sentenced for life.

This indicates that Indian Government and some elements in state of Kashmir want to sabotage the increasing popularity of JKLF on international stage.

Raja Muzaffar said that people of Kashmir will foil any effort to defame the just and peaceful struggle of Kashmiris under the leadership of JKLF.

The director said Kashmiris are peace loving people and Yasin Malik will not be intimidated with these tactics as he will continue the peaceful political struggle. They will foil all the conspiracies to sacrifice another generation in violence and terrorism.

He asked people to support Yasin Malik on his appeal for peaceful demonstration on 10th of December to be noticed internationally as Kashmiris have the basic human right to peaceful protest and assembly.
