LAHORE: As many as 30 religious scholars belonging to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) issued a Fatwa stating that anti-polio campaign was not against Sharia, Geo News reported on Thursday.

They said hindering of the campaign and killing the health workers not only created clashes but also brought a bad name to Pakistan as well as religion.

The Ulema said in their joint Fatwa that the anti-polio campaign was right in the light of Sharia.

They said that medical experts had declared the anti-polio drops useful and they could protect the children from disability in future.

The Fatwa termed the opponents of the campaign as ignorant and said that Sunnah clearly recognizes treatment for illness.

The religious decree called upon the Ulema to oppose the misleading propaganda against the polio campaign.
