ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to sack more than 3,000 employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), finance ministry sources said.
According to the sources, the decision has been taken to fire 3,078 employees step by step in five years. It said that Rs 3.8 billion would be saved annually by sacking the employees.
The sources said that the decision is also taken not to reemploy retired staffers of PIA.
“It is a part of reform process and the sacked employees of PIA would be given special package.” The sources said.
It also said that the prime minister would give final approval with regard to the firing of PIA staffers.
Rs 26 billion are likely to be granted to PIA for its reforms, the sources said.
