KARACHI: The Karachi Registry of Supreme Court held the hearing of the Karachi law and order case Wednesday where Justice Khilji Arif remarked that the administration has decided not to arrest the killers, Geo News reported.
A larger bench of the SC comprising Justice Jawwad Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Amir Hani heard the case.
During today’s proceedings, Justice Khilji Arif remarked that the administration is adamant on not arresting the killers and criminals who are involved in looting the citizens.
Inspector General Sindh Police Fayyaz Leghari told the court that the police has arrested 3,000 proclaimed offenders and more than 20,000 absconders in Karachi.
Prosecutor General Sindh Shahadat Awan apprised the court that there are 22,535 proclaimed offenders and absconders present in the city.
On this, Justice Khawaja questioned the Prosecutor General that why the authorities have not taken any action so far to arrest those accused. He said that the court wants implementation of Article 9 of the Constitution. He continued saying that the government is responsible if the citizens’ life and property are not safe.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja further stated that police should admit that they are unable to arrest the offenders and criminals.
Justice Amir Hani inquired IG Sindh Police about the number of cases that were categorized as A class involving target killings, and asked how a murder case can be categorized as A class within a week.
