LAHORE: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sunday said had the democratic traditions been thriving, the country would not have bifurcated back in the day, Geo News reported.
“We lost east Pakistan to the lack of democracy in the country”, he said while addressing at an event here at a local hotel.
He said, these days, the green shoots of democratic values could be seen sprouting even in the most undemocratic societies.
Kaira declared democracy was the only way out as well as forward for Pakistan.
"I do not see a revolution happening in Pakistan. We can hope for a "change" that begs all of us to join our hands together for it to be brought about", said information minister.
Reflecting on the government stance against terrorism, he said, he believed, changing the mindset was far more important than waging war or negotiating peace with the Taliban.
"Taliban are falling back in the battlefield but unfortunately their supporters are thriving in our ranks, which is alarming" , said he.
