LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, Sunday said that
to keep the dengue virus at bay the people had to change their social habits, Geo News reported.
In his message on Anti-Dengue Day, he said, "We should not afraid of dengue but fight against it and ensure complete elimination of dengue virus with effective steps of Punjab government and vigorous support of the people."
Special Adviser to CM on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafiq, DCO Lahore, Members Punjab Assembly, civil society, and public at large participated in the awareness walks held across Lahore on Sunday to mark the Anti-Dengue day.
Shahbaz in his message further said, the February 24 was being observed as anti-dengue day with a determination that all segments of the society would again step forward against dengue virus and ensure protection of human lives by utilizing all possible resources.
He said all segments of the society would have to play their effective role against dengue virus to defeat it through collective efforts.
"We will have to change our social habits for prevention against dengue, while lethargy and careless attitude towards protection of human lives can never be imagined," he maintained.
He said that a vigorous campaign, based on preventive measures against dengue, was being launched, while it was the need of the hour that elected representatives and government machinery should further strengthen anti-dengue campaign with a missionary zeal, which could only be ensured by active participation of the common man.
The Chief Minister said government machinery had a leading role to play in anti-dengue campaign, while government officers should participate in it with a passion to serve the people.
He said seminars, walks, and workshops had been arranged throughout Punjab including Lahore, to raise awareness regarding anti-dengue steps.
At the end of his message the chief minister appealed to all segments of the society to join hands to combat dengue virus and vigorously support the governmental steps taken in this regard.
