ISLAMABAD: Newly appointed judge of the Supreme Court Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman took oath of his office in a simple but dignified ceremony in Islamabad Monday, Geo News reported.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath while the ceremony was held at Supreme Court building. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by the chief justices of high courts, attorney general and other senior lawyers.
President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has appointed Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, as judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Spokesperson for the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts, after receiving the nomination of Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, had unanimously agreed with the nomination and requested the Prime Minister to advise the President for the said appointment.
