MIRANSHAH: The funeral prayer of senior journalist, Malik Mumtaz Khan, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan tribal region, was held here on Thursday, Geo News reported.

Malik Mumtaz was later laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.

Meanwhile, protest demonstrations were held in different parts of the country against the killing of Malik Mumtaz, who was associated with ‘The News International’, Urdu daily ‘Jang’ and ‘Geo TV’ as their North Waziristan correspondent.

In Parachinar, journalists, tribal elders and religious and political parties protested against this incident.

Protest demonstrations were also held in Bajuar Agency, Bannu, Kurk, Charsada, Peshawar, Chaman, Zohb, Sargodha, Chakwal, Sukkur and other parts of the country.

The protesters demanded arrested of the culprits involved in the killing of Malik Mumtaz besides providing protection to other journalists.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has announced Rs 1 million compensation for the family of Malik Mumtaz.
