ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized the preparation to restrict the media during the forthcoming general elections.

Under the code of conduct, the ECP wanted to bind the media to only broadcast official results of the elections.

However, Press Council of Pakistan has rejected the code of conduct formulated by the ECP.

The code of conduct also focused on giving equal coverage to all the political parties taking part in the elections and made the PEMRA responsible to monitor it.

Chairman Press Council of Pakistan Raja Muhammad Shafqat Abbasi dismissing the conduct said that ECP didn’t reserve the right to make code of conduct for the media.

There is already a code of conduct formulated by the press council for media, he added.
