ISLAMABAD: Showing flexibility over a ban on transfer of development funds as part of measures to stop what was branded pre-poll rigging by some opposition parties, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday allowed finance ministry that it might release funds for development schemes.

According to the ECP, the finance ministry could now transfer the funds for development schemes while it could also be issued through discretionary powers of the prime minister.

The ECP said the funds could be transferred under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and Central Development Working Party (CDWP) while the funds approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) could also be issued.
