ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have demanded the resignation of Caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib Khan, Geo News reported.
According to sources, MQM’s Coordination Committee has appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari and the ECP to dismiss Khan.
The committee said that as a result of the partial statement by the interior minister the credibility of the whole caretaker cabinet had become suspected. Therefore, removal of the minister is a must.
PTI Information Secretary Shafqat Mahmood said that Khan’s statement showed bias towards a political party and demanded his resignation.
The caretaker interior minister made a statement in favour of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) chief Nawaz Sharif, in which he said that the PML-N leader was the only real leader in Pakistan.
Shafqat Mahmood said that the statement made by the caretaker interior minister showed that he was partisan, thus making him unacceptable as it could have an effect in the general elections.
PPP leader Samsam Bukhari also demanded Malik Habib Khan’s resignation saying that his statement puts into question his impartiality. He also said a reference will be filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over the issue.
