KUSHINAGAR: A raging fire engulfed a slum area in Khushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, leaving hundreds of people homeless and killing two women.
"Fire caught during cooking, two women have died and around 140 huts have been gutted in fire," said Kishore, a local resident.
The loss of the household upset the sentiments of the poor.
Meanwhile, another massive fire was reported in Kanpur at a cloth warehouse fire began just after midnight and it soon spread quickly across the entire area, as heaps of clothes and cotton were stored inside the warehouse.
Fire officer S. K Kushwaha said the efforts were being made to douse the flames.
" Fire broke out in a godown and is massively spread in the entire building, efforts are being made to douse it, we are trying our best to douse the fire," said S. K Kushwaha.
