KARACHI: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sunday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should also arrange for allowing electorate to exercise their right of franchise on ‘present address’ as it appears on their National Identity cards.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of launching a DVD of PPP’s promotional songs here at Karachi Press Club, Taj Haider said the people belonging to poor segments of the society will have difficulty in reaching polling stations due to the ECP ban on parties to provide transport facility on polling day.
He said while ‘misuse’ of Articles 62 and 63 triggered a lot of hue and cry, a particular mindset deprived Ayaz Amir of a party ticket despite getting a clean chit following the scrutiny process.
Taj Haider said the ECP should issue an additional list to allow the electorate to vote on the basis of their ‘present address’ mentioned on their National Identity cards.
