Karachi: Shooting leaves Shia cleric injured, guard dead

KARACHI: Allama Syed Baqir Zaidi, a prominent Shia leader survived a bid on life as his bodyguard took most of the hits to die later during what could be said to be yet another heinous act of targeted sectarian shooting, Geo News reported.

He came under attack while traveling in Liaquatabad Unit 4 on Saturday afternoon.

Sources said men armed with assault rifles suddenly intercepted his car and fired quick bursts hitting all occupants in it before making their gateway.

All the casualties were rushed to the hospital, but the emergency room doctors could not save Allama Zaidi’s bodyguard.

Zaidi and his driver are under treatment in the hospital, however a word on their condition is yet to be received.

Karachi has so far witnessed at least six shooting related fatalities.
