NEW DELHI: The violent clashes that erupted in Delhi's Tihar Jail left an inmate dead and several other seriously injured, Indian media reported.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Javed, was allegedly beaten up by other inmates following which he was rushed to Delhi's Deen Dayal Hospital.

Later, Javed succumbed to his injuries this afternoon, said jail officials. Others injured in the clash have also been hospitalized. The deceased belongs to Seelampur in Delhi.

However, jail officials confirmed that no Pakistani prisoner was involved in the fighting and a judicial inquiry has been initiated in the case.

"The reason for the clash is yet unknown but details will become clearer once the inquiry report is submitted," said a senior jail official.
