KARACHI: According to unofficial results Geo News received from 43 polling stations of NA-250 where a partial reelection was held Sunday, Pakiistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Arif Alvi is leading with 17519 votes.

On the other hand PTI candidates, Khuram Sher Zaman and Samar Ali Khan, vying for provincial constituencies, PS-112-113, are also ahead of their rivals with 2581 and 9759 votes.

Troops, police and paramilitary Rangers backed up by armoured personnel carriers guarded the 43 polling stations in the NA-250 constituency, following claims of ballot-stuffing there during the May 11 general election.

About 86,000 registered voters were expected to cast ballots in the re-polling. There are two provincial constituencies --PS-112-113-- in NA-250.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) had boycotted the re-polling after the ECP rejected their demands of holding re-election in the entire constituency.

According to sources the turnout at the polling stations located in the strongholds of those parties which boycotted the selective re-polling remained very low, however in most of the DHA voters formed long queues to exercise their right to franchise.

According to unofficial results Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)leader Naimatullah Khan Advocate received 446 votes from NA-250.

The results of 7 polling stations of PS-112 showed that PTI candidate Khuram Sher Zaman raked in 2,581 votes, while Awami National Party (ANP) leader Khalid Iqbal got 177 votes.

The result of 21 polling stations of PS-113 showed that PTI candidate Samar Ali Khan secured 9,759 votes, whereas PML-N contestant Saleem Zia got 2,872 votes.

The turnout at the polling stations located in the strongholds of those parties which boycotted the selective re-polling remained very low, however, it remained much in other areas of NA-250, PS-112 andPS-113.

An election official said turnout was initially assessed at more than 40 percent despite scorching weather and the gunning-down late Saturday of a PTI leader.

Zohra Hussain, 59, vice president of the party's women's wing in Sindh province, was targeted by three men on a motorcycle outside her home in an upmarket part of Karachi.

Her death was the latest following a bloody election campaign marked by more than 150 killings.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) spokesman said that officials had supervised the balloting, which they said went smoothly throughout the day without any hitch.

He added that polling staff and election material was dispatched on time for the partial re-election.

The re-polling started at 8:00 AM and continued till 5:00 PM without a break.
