ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has ordered a ban on use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for over 1000 cc cars, Geo News reported Tuesday.

However, according to reports, the All Pakistan CNG Association has refused to abide by the above order.

The PM ordered that the decision be consulted with the Ministry of Law and, if it is found feasible, it would come into effect from May 25.

According to the spokesman, the Petroleum Ministry had forwarded a summary proposing a ban on filling of CNG in vehicles over 1000 cc which was approved by the Prime Minister.

The summary proposes to fine a CNG pump with Rs50,000 in case of first violation of the orders and Rs100,000 on the second. If it breaches the ban for the third time, it will face a closure for a period of six months, and on fourth time for a full year.

However, the order has been rejected by the All Pakistan CNG Association whose president Ghiyas Paracha said it was out of the caretaker government’s mandate to take such a decision.
