KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister, Nisar Khuhro on Wednesday said powers to the paramilitary force have been granted in today’s Sindh Assembly resolution under the Anti Terrorism Act (ATC).
Speaking in Geo News program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, Nisar Khuhro said there is nothing new in the resolution and the powers granted to Rangers are the same as laid down in the law.
He said Rangers had been requisitioned to restore and maintain law and order in Karachi.
Nisar Khuhro said in light of the resolution adopted today, Sindh Rangers will have to seek provincial government’s permission prior to conducting a raid on a government office.
He said it was Sind government and no one else which had called out Rangers.
MQM’s Khawaja Izharul Hassan
Opposition leader in Sindh Assembly and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Khawaja Izharul Hassan said his party is not against the Karachi operation.
“We were only trying to get our reservations (in connection with Karachi operation) addressed,” he clarified.
He said Sindh government does not take any time in passing a resolution that serves its interest.
MQM, he said, desires peace not only in Karachi but all across the Sindh province.
