Nomination papers for NA speakers to be filed today

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly will elect its speaker and deputy speaker on Monday (tomorrow) while the leader of the House will be elected on June 5 (Wednesday).

The nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker will be delivered at the office of the NA secretary by 12 noon on June 2 (today). On June 3, the process to elect the speaker will take place after which outgoing Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will administer oath to the new speaker.

After the transfer of authority to the newly elected speaker, the selection of the deputy speaker will take place. Both the elections will be held through secret ballot.The election for the post of the prime minister will be held through a division of the House.

The PML-N parliamentary party, which met for the second time on Saturday evening at the Punjab House, nominated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Murtaza Javed Abbasi for the slots of speaker and deputy speaker respectively.

MQM parliamentarians S A Iqbal Qadri and Abdul Rashid Godel received nomination papers for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker from the NA Secretariat.PTI’s Ms Munazza Hasan has obtained the nomination papers for the post of deputy speaker.

The PPP has not yet decided as to who will be its candidate for the posts of speaker and deputy speaker in the National Assembly.
