ISLAMABAD: PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the election of prime minister in the National Assembly, Geo News reported.
Contesting the election against Nawaz Sharif are PTI's Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and the PPPP's Makhdoom Amin Fahim both of whom have also filed their nomination papers.
The nomination papers of the above mentioned candidates were accepted following the scrutiny process.
The Prime Ministers Election
In contrast to the election procedure for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, there will be no secret voting for the election for leader of the house as the prime minister will be elected through dividing the house in as many lobbies - as candidates run for the coveted post.
The members will assembly alongside their favored candidate, before the speaker announces the results based on the head count.
The Oath
The oath taking ceremony for the prime minister will be held at the President House on Wednesday evening. President Asif Ali Zardari will administer the oath to the new prime minister.
Taking Sides
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced its support for the PML-N, while the Pakistan People’s Party has refused to withdraw its candidate for the slot of prime minister. The PTI has fielded its own candidate for the slot as well.
