ISLAMABAD: Newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to fulfill the mandate entrusted upon him by the people of Pakistan.

Addressing the National Assembly soon after his election as 27th Prime Minister of Pakistan, he thanked Allah for giving him the opportunity to serve again.

Nawaz Sharif said, “We will work for good governance, protection of minorities, peace”, adding that he has comprehensive plan to resolve all issues including the power outages and results of his efforts would soon become obvious.

PM Nawaz Sharif appreciated previous government’s move to hand over management of Gwadar port to China. He said during his meeting with Chinese premiere recently, he had agreed on a plan to make a road and railway system for Chinese goods to reach Gwadar and Karachi.

On Balochistan, he said this was the first time that the "true leadership" of Balochistan will be governing the province.

He urged US to stop drone strikes in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas and vowed to launch a vigorous diplomatic campaign against it soon.

PM said he wanted the people to believe that he would not sit still and would do all in his power to change the fate of the country.

He said his government’s priority would be to give the country a solid infrastructure, bring in economic reforms and tackle corruption.

Sharif vowed that his government would improve the conditions of religious minorities in the country, adding that he also hoped that the media would be reviewing the performance of his cabinet and would assist him and his party in reforming governance.

The prime minister also referred to the law and order situation in Karachi and said his party would work tirelessly to ensure that the city’s security situation improves.
