LAHORE: Amir Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Syed Munawar Hasan Monday described the record sixth consecutive speech of President Asif Zardari to the joint sitting of the parliament as ‘nothing but rhetoric aimed at buying concessions from the government’.

In a statement issued here, the JI Amir said it amazed him how the people who used to confront the constitutional institutions were now talking in favor of upholding the supremacy of the constitution.

“The President by eulogizing the performance of his five-year-long government added insult to the people’s injuries,” Munawar Hasan maintained.

However, he praised the President’s endorsing the idea of expanding Pakistan-China ties.
