ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought date for local bodies election from the federation and provinces on Thursday.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the Balochistan law and order case here on Wednesday.

During proceedings, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked whether the government would announce the date for the election or the apex court would have to do so.

Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that there was hope of the new government improving law and order in Balochistan but the situation had further worsened.

The CJ said that peace could not be restored in the province despite government having army, Rangers, MI, FIA, police and other institutions at its disposal.
