KARACHI: The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) late Monday night saved a foreign merchant ship from sinking after its engines failed off Pakistan coast.
According to details the vessel, "Gulf Oasis", which was on its way from Sri Lanka to Sharjah (UAE) developed an engine fault in the deep waters and was at the mercy of the ocean currents and risked sinking when it sent a stress signal to PQA.
The PQA Operations Department responded to the distress call and tugged the ship, which is loaded with hundreds of tonnes of edible oil, to the safety of the wharf, where it will remained berthed until it’s engines are fully functional again.
