ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Wednesday ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold presidential election on July 30, as ECP later left it up to SC to decide the date for holding election, Geo News reported.
The apex court was hearing the petition of Raja Zafrul Huque praying SC to direct the ECP to hold the upcoming presidential election on July 30 instead of August 6 as announced by ECP.
During the hearing, the Attorney General when asked by CJ his opinion on the issue said that there was no constitutional bar in holding presidential election on July 30 and Public Representation Act was no obstruction in the way of presidential election.
Following federation’s endorsement of Raja Zafrul Huque’s plea, the Chief Justice had asked ECP D.G to get directive from high-ups and report by 11.00 A.M.
Thereafter, ECP informed the court that whatever decision taken by the court would be acceptable to them and they would manage to hold the presidential election on the date ordered by the SC.
