ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday accepted the nomination papers submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain despite objections, Geo News reported.
Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim was present at the venue to scrutinize and approve the nomination papers of the presidential candidates.
During the process, an objection was raised regarding Mamnoon Hussain’s party membership, as the contesting candidates are restricted to hold any party membership.
However, PML-N’s Mamnoon Hussain had already announced to resign from the party membership after winning the presidential election.
Mamoon Hussain had submitted his nomination papers on Thursday.
The process of scrutiny of presidential election papers is currently underway in Islamabad.
Mamnoon Hussain had earlier served as the 27th Governor of Sindh for a period of six months.
Members of the Parliament will elect a new president on July 30.
