ISLAMABAD: It was disclosed during the hearing into the Employees Old-Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) investment scandal case that Babar Sattar is the counsel of the institution.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the judiciary is trying to secure the money of the institution while its legal advisor is targeting the judiciary.
The apex court was told that Babar Sattar is one of the legal advisors in the case over which Chief Justice remarked that Sattar is also an advisor of EOBI and also writing articles against the Supreme Court.
Justice Iftikhar further said that Babar Sattar does not hold a license to practice in the Supreme Court and he should argue in the court rather than writing articles in the newspapers.
"Babar Sattar may be a big scholar but he must be careful in his utterances," the chief justice remarked.
The chief justice observed that EOBI does not seek legal opinion before making its investments. When the apex court asked how many lawyers are there in EOBI panel, the court was told that Babar Sattar is a legal advisor of the institution.
Meanwhile, Justice Jawwad S Khwaja remarked that if the court inquired about Rs 22 billion then does it really qualify for being labeled as an objectionable act.
It is pertinent to mention here that Babar Sattar has recently written an article in which he criticized the suo moto notice on EoBI scandal.
