Security tightened around Karachi Central Prison over threats

KARACHI: Police commandos have been deployed around the Karachi Central Jail amid potential security threats.

Heavy contingent of police surrounded the detention facility in the early hours of Sunday. Sources said that the prison was surrounded by police in the wake of potential threat of a terrorist attack.

A large number of Taliban militants attacked Dera Ismail Khan’s Central Jail this week, freeing over 240 prisoners including dozens of hardcore militants and putting a question mark on the security arrangements for the jails across the country.

The DI Khan jailbreak occurred despite intelligence information provided by secret agencies days before the brazen attack.
