Nawaz-Kayani meeting before PM address

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ahead of latter’s address to the nation.

According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif was also present during the meeting in which different issues came under discussion.

The meeting also considered prevailing wave of terrorism in the country and security policy.

The army chief and the prime minister discussed issues related to security of hardened terrorist detained in different jails and execution of death row convicts, besides deployment of troops at the polling stations during by-polls.

In his maiden address after assuming the office of Prime Minister for the third time, the premier is likely to touch upon major problems confronting the nation including the energy crisis, the law and order situation, the country’s role in the war on terror and some key foreign policy matters.

It is expected that the PM will also inform the nation about measures taken by his government to bring improvement in these areas.

The prime minister’s address has been recorded in Islamabad and will be broadcast at 8:00 PM on Monday.
