ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said the National Action Plan (NAP) is an agenda for security of Pakistan and there should be no politics over it.

Speaking during a Senate session, he said the plan was a shared responsibility, adding that ten out of twenty points of the NAP relate to provinces, eight to different ministries and others with the military and the intelligence agencies.

Chaudhry Nisar said there was satisfactory progress on fifteen points and ‘slow’ on the remaining five.

He said as a result of NAP, marked improvement has been witnessed in security situation across the country. The Interior Minister said there are twenty thousand students in both registered and unregistered seminaries of the federal capital.

Due to verification campaign there was no complaints about the use of SIMs in terrorist acts, said the minister. He said the improved security situation had encouraged settlers to return to Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

The interior minister said there were 62 proscribed organisations whose data was now being linked to NADRA. He however rejected the claim that anyone contested elections under the banner of proscribed outfit.

Hundreds of arrests have been made on account of hate speeches, he said.

The minister was confident that the Joint Intelligence Directorate will become fully operational during the current financial year. National Counter-Terrorism Authority has also been reinvigorated, he added.

Nisar said a transparent policy is being implemented for registration and working of International NGOs. Under the new policy 127 INGOs have applied for registration, he added.

Earlier, in their speeches Senate members asked a number of questions from the minister regarding different aspects of National Action Plan and its implementation.
