ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) resumed hearing the local bodies election case on Tuesday where Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the provincial government will not get a date of their choice to hold local body elections, Geo News reported.
A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case today. During today’s proceedings, the CJ addressed the Advocate General Punjab and said that even the military dictators Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf also held local bodies elections.
He continued saying that if the government is not interested in holding the polls, then they should make it public. The court then ordered the government to hold the local body elections next week.
The hearing is still underway.
