PM Sharif likely to meet main contenders for COAS slot Wednesday

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will host a farewell dinner reception in the honour of the outgoing Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani here at PM House Wednesday, Geo News reported.

The Prime Minister will be announcing the name of the country’s new Chief of Army Staff on November 28.

Three senior generals, Lieutenant-General Haroon Aslam, Lieutenant-General Tariq Khan and Lieutenant-General Rashad Mahmood, are seen as main contenders for the top slot in the country’s most powerful institution.

According to sources, at tomorrow’s farewell reception the Premier will get an opportunity to meet all of them under one roof where ISI Chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam and all the corps commanders have also been invited.

Members of the Federal Cabinet will attend the event where Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaza Sharif’s presence is also expected.
