ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan chaired a high level meeting here on Saturday to review the overall law and order situation in the country and gave directions for increased coordination among law enforcement agencies.

He also asked for greater coordination with provincial governments in matters related to law and order.

The Minister was briefed about the current law and order situation in Balochistan on the occasion of local bodies elections taking place today Karachi situation as well as incidents of protest in some parts of the country.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that rise in incidents of sectarian violence are a matter of concern for the government and asked the law enforcement agencies to take coordinated steps to mitigate such incidents.

He said that whereas all acts of violence should be dealt with an iron hand all segments of religious opinion should be taken on board in a proactive and positive manner.

The Minister directed the Islamabad and Rawalpindi police to put in force a dusk to dawn monitoring and vigilance system in twin cities to be complemented by patrolling by Rangers and the army.

He emphasized night duty for police officers on rotational basis. The Minister said that a Rapid Response Force should be created for Islamabad and Rawalpindi having the capability of reaching any location within seven to ten minutes.

The Minister directed the ministry officials to take all decisions purely on merit and do not pay heed to any favouritism.

He said all officers of the Ministry of Interior and its attached departments must look upon their responsibilities as a sacred duty.
