KARACHI: Unremitting gun attacks in the city claimed the lives of 10 more people, including two contestants of the upcoming local government elections, on Sunday.
Safdar Abbas, Abdul Aleem and Sakeena were returning home in a taxi after filing their nomination papers at the election commission office when four men on two motorcycles opened fire at the cab on Dalmia Road, said New Town SDPO Iftikhar Lodhi.
Sakeena was unharmed but Abbas, Aleem and taxi driver Syed Ali Shah suffered bullet wounds. They were taken to Aga Khan University Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. However, the three men succumbed to their injuries.
Following the attack, tension spread through Gulistan-e-Jauhar while members of the Shia community staged demonstrations against the killings.
Muhammad Saeed, 50, was on duty near Oxford High School at Gulshan Chowrangi when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled with his official sub-machine gun, said Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Muhammad Irfan.
The wounded man was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He had suffered a bullet to the head. He was the 167th policeman to be killed in the city this year.
Akram was working as a waiter at a hotel near Qazi Chowk in Ferozabad when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, injuring him and two others, said Ferozabad SHO Safdar Mashwani.
A fisherman’s body was found lying in a hilly area of Gulshan-e-Ibrahim, said Ibrahim Hyderi SHO Amanullah Marwat.
The body of Saifullah Bengali alias Munna was taken to JPMC. He had left the house in the wee hours for fishing when he was kidnapped, tortured and then shot dead.
An unidentified man’s body with bound limbs was found at Ijtima Gah in Manghopir, said Manghopir SHO Ghulam Hussain Korai.
Earlier on Sunday morning, four bodies were found at a house in Musharraf Colony area of Mauripur.
