ISLAMABAD: A strong earthquake jolted Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as the tribal areas on Friday afternoon.

The quake registered a 5.9 on the Richter scale.

Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Lower Dir, Malakand Division, Chitral, Hazara Division, Kurram Agency, Mohmand Agency, North and South Waziristan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Astore, Diamer, Azad Kashmir and surrounding areas.

The epicentre of the quake has been reported in the Hindukush region at a depth of 232 kilometers.

No loss of life and property has as yet been reported.

This is the third quake reported to hit the northern areas this year.

Note: The USGS has reported the earthquake as a 5.0 on the Richter scale and has identified the depth at 219 kilometers.
