KARACHI: Following the arrest of a party worker just before his wedding, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded sweeping changes in the top brass of Karachi police within 24 hours, Geo News reported.

“We will not leave here until the government removes the city’s incumbent top cops to elsewhere. We are giving them 24 hours to meet our demands”, MQM leader Wasay Jalil said talking to media outside Karachi Press Club (KPC).

An MQM statement, which came on the heels of Aziz’s arrest, vehemently condemned it as an incident of political victimization.

“This is a blatant case of political victimization. Aziz, who has an immaculate criminal record, was persecuted only for his association with MQM.

When asked how MQM would react if its demands, which seem to be too ambitious for the government to meet, were rejected, Jalil, said, “A future line of action will be announced in due course”

Jalil added that Aziz was also a nominated MQM candidate for the upcoming local government elections.

MQM leader, Amir Khan, was also present on the occasion.

Later, the protest camp was moved and set up outside Chief Minister House.

A few hours later MQM leaders announced they were ending the sit-in for now.

"We are calling off our protest sit-in and will unveil our future course of action within 24 hours", said Wasay Jalil taking to media outside CM House.

Wrapping it up, he also demanded of the government to have other illegally detained MQM workers released before long.

Earlier, MQM worker, Fahad Aziz, a resident of Korangi, was reportedly taken into custody by police, while he was leading his Baraat (wedding motorcade) towards a Shah Faisal Colony marriage lawn, where he was to wed his bride.

Sources said that Aziz’s bridal procession was intercepted on Shah Faisal Colony Bridge by law enforcers, who forced the festooned bridegroom out his car and took him away to an unknown location.
