KARACHI: Karachi Police Chief, Shahid Hayat on Tuesday reiterated that the ongoing targeted crackdown is not against a particular group or party but being carried out indiscriminately against the criminal elements.

Talking to Geo News, he said action is simultaneously being taken against policemen who transgressed their legal authority.

Commenting on the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Salman, the chief of Karachi Police said a high-level investigation team, headed by DIG South, has been formed which will present its findings in three days.

To a question in connection with MQM worker Fahad Aziz’s arrest during his wedding, he said the local police had leads and that Aziz did cough up some disclosures in the course of interrogation. “But he (Fahad Aziz) was released after his health condition turned bad,” he added.

He, however, clarified that the targeted operation is not against any particular group or party but it is being carried out indiscriminately against criminal elements. “In case some police personnel or officials are at fault, we can take corrective measures,” he asserted, adding, whatever action can be taken within the legal limits will be initiated.
