ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has rebuked officials of water and power ministry, directing them to present a workable plan for overcoming prolonged power outages.
Power cuts have added to the misery of people who are already braving the increased temperatures across the country and were forced to register their protest against load shedding in several cities
The urban areas of the country are facing up to 12-hour long load shedding while rural areas are dealing with 16-hour long power outages.
The prime minister convened a meeting with the officials of ministry of water and power in which minister of state Abid Sher Ali, special assistant to the prime minister Musaddiq Malik and secretary Saifullah Chattha were also present.
Sources said that the prime minister made it clear to the officials that he needs a workable plan for reducing prolonged power outages. He directed the officials to also submit the report regarding crackdown carried out by power distribution companies against power thieves.
