KARACHI: The governing body of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Saturday vowed to put up resistance if any effort was made to shut down any TV channel.

The meeting resolved that it would not allow closure of any TV channel as livelihood of thousands of journalists was linked to broadcasting organizations.

“Governing body feels closing other channels will be easier in the coming days if a channel is shut down today, our efforts to foil such conspiracies will continue” said a statement issued by the Karachi Press Club.

The body which met with Imtiaz Khan Faran in the chair also formed a committee to probe Friday’s incident that took place at the press club.

KPC’s vice president Saeed Sarbazi will head the five member committee. The governing body meeting was attended by Imtiaz Faran, Saeed Sarbazi, Azhar Hussain, Amir Latif, Shams Kerio, Kafeeluddin Faizan, Sohail Rafique, Saddam Tufail Hashmi, Arshad Khokar, Arbab Chandio, Liaqat Mughal. Jamshed Gul and others.

The probe committee was instructed to complete its report within a week. Moreover, another committee comprising KPC President Imtiaz Faran, Secretary Amir Latif, Maksood Yousfi, Khurshid Tanveer and Saeed Khawar was formed in the meeting.

The committee will meet owners and editors of TV channels and newspapers to propose solution to prevailing crisis in the industry.
