NEW DELHI: Pakistan's Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif paid a visit to Jama Masjid in New Delhi on Tuesday (today) after witnessing Narendra Modi's anointment as India's 15th Prime Minister on Monday.

PM Nawaz offered prayers at the Jama Masjid and met the Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, ahead of his one-on-one meeting with newly elected Indian Prime Minister Modi today at 12:30 pm.

Amid heavy security, Nawaz Sharif along with other officials including his son Hussain Nawaz and Pakistan High Commissioner in India toured the mosque built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

After spending approximately 20 minutes in the Masjid, PM Nawaz said that it's an honour for him to pay a visit to the historic mosque. He, then, left to visit Red Fort.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to meet Nawaz Sharif and other SAARC leaders today after formally assuming charge of his office today morning.

The meeting is anticipated as historic and has generated a huge interest as this is the first time in 67 years that a Pakistani premier has witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of an Indian Prime Minister.

Both the leaders are likely to discuss bilateral relationship and resumption of dialogues along with other matters of national interest.
