ISLAMABAD: Leader of opposition in the national assembly, Khurshid Shah Tuesday urged upon the prime minister to announce withdrawal of Article 245 today, Geo News reported.
“Nawaz Sharif must prove that he is a democratic prime minister, in case of any threat to democracy we will fight till last drop our blood”, he said emphatically.
Khurshid Shah warned if the Article 245 was not withdrawn, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would vehemently protest leaving all others behind.
The decision to enforce Article 245 in Islamabad is being hotly debated in the national assembly session presided over by the Speaker Ayaz Sadiq by suspending normal proceedings.
The leader of opposition said that the article for calling the army exists in the constitution and added that his party during its tenure had also called the army in Malakand, but it was war-like situation over there and the army was called after taking the parliament into confidence.
Contrary to this, he said normal situation prevailing in Islamabad. He enquired what challenge/threat Islamabad is facing that has necessitated the enforcement of Article 245?
Khurshid Shah demanded immediate withdrawal of article 245 and added we could not support the government working under the umbrella of Article 245, withdraw it and we would fully support you.
