LORD’S: The fourth one-day international between England and Pakistan is expected to go ahead today despite a leading figure accusing the hosts of throwing last week's third game.

Ijaz Butt, the chairman of the Pakistan board, turned up the heat ahead of the penultimate match of the tour nobody wants with an extraordinary attack on the integrity of Andrew Strauss's side.

'There is loud and clear talk in bookie circles that some English players were paid enormous amounts of money to lose the match,' said Butt. 'No wonder there was total collapse of the English side.'

Butt, also talked of a 'sinister conspiracy to defraud Pakistan', after the International Cricket Council had launched an investigation into claims that Pakistan players indulged in more spot-fixing during their 23 run victory over England at The Brit Oval.

The ICC are taking very seriously claims that Pakistan manipulated their innings to ensure a certain number of runs were scored in a particular period of play at the behest of illegal bookmakers.

Thanks to Butt's intervention, today's match is likely to be played in an increasingly tense atmosphere.

Strauss had earlier admitted the end of Pakistan's tour, with the final match taking place at Hampshire's Rose Bowl on Wednesday, cannot come quickly enough.

'All the players will be relieved when this series is over, there's no doubt about that,' he said. 'It's been a very tough series to play in. My heart sank when I heard the latest allegations against Pakistan as the last thing the game needs is to be dragged through the mill further.'

Former England captain Michael Vaughan joined Sportsmail at the weekend in calling for the tour to be end.

A victory for Pakistan will get them to draw level with England at 2-2 and also will expect to maintain momentum gained from the wins.

At the same time, a victory for England will see them get their hands on the ODI series trophy in addition to the test and the T20 trophies.
