LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) on Monday said that it would not accept any extra-constitutional change and called upon the political leadership to resolve issues through talks and reconciliation.

PUC chairman Allama Tahir Ashrafi while chairing a meeting here, appealed to the government, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahir ul Qadri to observe patience and resolve issues in the light of the constitutional.

Allama Ashrafi asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif not to resign until his rivals proved electoral rigging, adding that an independent probe commission can resolve the issues.

He further said that 11 political parties were supporting the government in the parliament, while only PTI opposed it.

During the meeting the council members expressed reservations over the closure of Geo News.
