ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and world over were observed Jammu Martyrs Day on Thursday (today) to reaffirm the resolve to continue their liberation struggle till they achieve their inalienable right of self determination.
During the first week of November in 1947, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris were killed by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh Indian army and Hindu extremists in different parts of Jammu region while they were migrating to Pakistan.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement paid rich tributes to the 1947 martyrs of Jammu.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the memories of the massacre and genocide would continue to haunt our history for the ages to come. Mirwaiz who continues to be under house arrest said that sacrifices of Jammu martyrs were an important asset of the freedom struggle adding their sacrifices have a historical significance as far as the freedom struggle of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned.
“The hearts of the people of Jammu and Kashmir beat together and their interests are inter related and inter connected a fact which can’t be overlooked,” he added.
The APHC chairman asked the clerics to organize protests and raise their voice against the injustices committed by Indian troops on Friday tomorrow at Masjids, shrines and Imambarahs.
He also appealed lawyers respectable and other civil society members to raise their voice in protest against the bloodshed in Kashmir.
