ISLAMABAD: Government and opposition finally reached consensus over Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani’s appointment as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) but the latter chose not to accept the role of ECP chief.

Sources said the consensus was reached as a result of a consultation that took place on telephone between Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah in connection with the appointment of CEC.

They rejected the objections raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan as unrealistic over the induction of Justice Jillani as CEC.

However, Justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani expressed his unwillingness to accept the key post.

Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas has already pulled out of the list of potential candidates for the coveted slot of ECP Chief.
