ISLAMABAD: The government and opposition have developed consensus over the name of Justice Tariq Pervez for Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Geo News reported.

Sources said Senator Ishaq Dar telephoned Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and discussed the situation arose after former chief justice, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani refused to accept the offer.

Sources added at present, former chief justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Tariq Pervez is considered most appropriate candidate for the slot, however, both the parties agreed to take his opinion before sending the name to the parliamentary committee.

Meanwhile, Syed Khursheed Shah has sought time till tonight for final consultation.
