NAUDERO: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI F) Sindh chapter general secretary and ex-senator Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro’s body has been transported to his native area of Naudero on Saturday.
According to the family sources, the funeral prayers of the slain leader will be held at Municipal Stadium, Larkana, at 7:00 pm today. The burial will take place near the Soomra Farm House.
Dr Soomro was offering Fajar prayer in Gulshan-e-Iqbal SITE, Sukkur when armed terrorists entered the mosque Jamia Haqqai and opened indiscriminate firing. He was being shifted to hospital when he breathed his last.
SSP Suhail Tanveer said four armed men targeted the religious leader and fled.
The body was brought to his native village Naudero. He was an MBBS doctor but he opened a big seminary in Larkana where thousands of students get education. He left behind six sons and three daughters.
Previously he had survived six assassination bids. Soon as the sad news spread, all main towns in upper Sindh went closed. Larkana and Sukkur went totally closed and hundreds of thousands of JUI-F leaders and students gathered. However, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has formed a committee to probe the incident.
All businesses remained shut in Sukkur and Naudero to mourn the assassination of Dr Khalid Mahmood Soomro.
JUI F activists led by Moulvi Abdul Qudoos Panhwar took out a large protest rally and held demonstration condemning the killing of their cherished leader.
The activists chanted slogans against the rulers and demanded arrest of the criminals involved in the criminal act. The rally marched through all the main thoroughfares and bazaars of this town.
Moulvi Qudoos, while addressing the workers, said that Dr Soomro has been murdered through a conspiracy and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. He said that Larkana has once again lost another brave leader.
Traders closed their shops to mourn the death of the noted religious and political leader who spoke very bravely on all major issues confronting Sindh.
