PESHAWAR: While chairing a high level meeting of parliamentary parties in Peshawar Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his determination to continue combat against the terrorists, Geo News reported.
Leaders of almost all the top political parties attended the meeting convened by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today to discuss the situation that emerged after the deadly attack at a school in Peshawar where militants killed almost 141 people including 132 children.
PM Nawaz, who described the Peshawar school attack as a "national tragedy unleashed by savages", chaired the meeting of political parties in Peshawar to discuss a response to the tragedy, but the crucial announcement came ahead of the moot.
The PM thanked all the leaders for attending the meeting and said that the government appreciates and acknowledges the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces in order to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that tragedies like Peshawar carnage are hard to found and that the details of the attack would soon become public.
Addressing the parliamentary leaders, the premier stated that Pakistan has borne economic losses and other huge losses in its fight against terrorism but the country will get rid of the menace of terrorism soon.
Furthermore, the PM termed the tragedies at Wahga and Peshawar Army Public School as major events after Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
PM Nawaz also told that Afghan President called him and condoled over the massacre. He said that the decisions taken by the Pak-Afghan governments should be implemented and that the respective borders should not be allowed to use for terrorism activities. Additionally both the countries would launch major offensive against terrorists.
He also told that the Army Chief has departed for Afghanistan where he would hold talks with the ISAF commander and Afghan government over the Peshawar tragedy.
Nawaz Sharif said that the sacrifices of the young soldiers will not go in vain and the country will continue its fight against terrorism and terrorists.
The leaders offered Fateha for eternal peace of the victims and prayed Allah Almighty to grant courage to members of the bereaved families to bear this loss with patience.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted the ban on capital punishment in terrorism cases following which the terrorists facing death penalty could be executed.
The government and military have reaffirmed their determination to defeat a group that has killed thousands since it began its insurgency in 2007.
Besides the terror attack in Peshawar, the leaders also discussed other challenges faced by the country.
Representatives from Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and Pakistan People’s Party, Qaumi Watan Party, Pashtunkhwa Mili Awami Party and others were present in the meeting.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan who has been protesting against the government since August also attended the meeting chaired by the prime minister.
