LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday granted custody of two abandoned young siblings to their mother, in a case of a struggle between husband and wife.

The court ordered that under every circumstance the father of the children must be present in court for the next hearing.

As the mother appeared in court today, the five-year-old son Omar and four-year-old daughter Amna all embraced each other and cried, creating a moving scene.

The mother Seema told the court that her husband was involved in an affair with another woman and as a result she was consistently tortured by him. She said that she had even lost a child during pregnancy as a result of being beaten.

She went on to say that the children’s paternal grandfather as well as her husband had forcibly snatched her children away from her and kicked her out of the house.

Upon the inquiry of the court, the grandfather told them that his son (the children’s father) was still in Pakistan.

Following the grant of returning custody to the mother, the court also ordered the grandfather to pay monthly Rs 6,000 monthly.

Human Rights activist Asma Jehangir presented the children with Rs 10,000 out of sympathy.
