ISLAMABAD: Former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry on Thursday announced that he has joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has expressed joy over the announcement, saying he welcomes the senior leader in the party ranks.
Speaking at a conference onganised to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day, he said that there were no corruption allegations on Barrister Sultan, adding that he had made a great decision for the masses in AJK.
‘Poll rigging’
The PTI chief, commenting on alleged rigging in the 2013 general election, said that the truth behind the poll rigging would be unveiled by the end of this month.
He blamed Sindh and Punjab governments for the delay in holding local government polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Khan vowed to devolve power to the rural masses of the province.
The cricketer-turned-politician reiterated that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari were the two sides of the same coin.
He said that only the ruling elite had become billionaires while the rest of the country was living below the poverty line.
‘PTI to project Kashmir issue internationally’
The PTI chairman said that only strong and stable Pakistan could fight and defend the rights of the people in the Indian-held Kashmir.
He said that human rights would be ensured to Kashmiri people at all cost. “We will run a campaign before the international community for Kashmir,” he added.
Khan said a day would come when Kashmir dispute would be resolved and the territory be liberated from Indian occupation.
He said use of force and deployment of troops in the occupied Kashmir would only result in more hatred towards India.
